Today let’s get to know Computer Science’s Senior UNIX Systems Administrator, Cody Stevens. Cody is a Wake Forest University IS employee who is assigned to the Department of Computer Science and works supporting technology for our classes, research, students, and faculty. He also jumps in when needed as an Adjunct Professor teaching CSC 111. Let’s meet WFU CS Alum, Cody Stevens!
Cody, tell us a bit about yourself. Where were you born and what do you like to do?
I was born in Frederick, MD and moved to Winston-Salem for undergrad at Wake in 2009. I have an awesome cat named Cooper and I like biking, board games, and disc golf. My favorite tv show is New Girl, favorite movie is Minority Report and my favorite book is The Ministry of Fear by Graham Greene.
What is something you’ve always wanted to do but haven’t yet?
Always wanted to hike the Appalachian Trail.
What is the most unusual job you’ve ever had?
Not sure it’s unusual but I was a barista at Campus Grounds here at Wake.
What is the most important life lesson you have learned to this point?
If you need help, don’t be afraid to ask!
Why Computer Science? What interested you about it that you knew you needed it to be your career?
I knew I wanted to pursue Computer Science as soon as I took CSC 111 and dropped MT113! My favorite thing about my role in the department is working with students. I’m always tackling interesting and different projects from week to week that students and faculty are working on. Whether it’s supporting a class or research, it’s always great collaborating with driven, hard working students, and watching them grow academically while they’re here at Wake.
What’s the best thing about WFU?
Definitely Thanksgiving at the Pit!
