Special Programs
Honors Program
Highly qualified majors are invited by the department chair to apply for admission to the honors program. To graduate with a designation of “Honors in Computer Science,” students must satisfactorily complete a senior research paper and have a minimum GPA of 3.5 in the major and 3.0 in all college work.
Independent Study
Independent (or individual) study in Computer Science at Wake Forest University allows a student to gain experience in and understanding of material from an area that is typically not presented in a regular class. Independent study courses are not to be used to replace a comparable class offered by the department, a group, state, or national convention; development of a poster to be presented in the department; an article for publication; or development of instructional material.
Transfer Credit and Study Abroad
Study abroad, summer school elsewhere, and generally gaining experience at other universities provide rich experiences for students. We encourage students to take advantage of these opportunities and do all we can to provide support.
Entrepreneurship
The Department of Computer Science provides a number of opportunities for engagement around the area of entrepreneurship. Information on faculty with current or previous entrepreneurship roles, computer science courses relating to entrepreneurship, and an annual opportunity for funding can be found here.
Ethics
Since the fall semester of 2020, the Department of Computer Science has been working to increase opportunities to engage with ethics, virtue, and character education as it relates to computer science and technology.
