Seminar on Metadata-Aware Memory Security by Dr. Xin Wang from Virginia Tech

Join us Monday, September 1 at 4:00 PM in Manc 024! Dr. Xin Wang, Research Assistant, Department of Computer Science, Virginia Tech will be presenting his research titled Metadata-Aware Memory Security.
Abstract: Cloud computing reduces costs by sharing servers among many users, but this model risks exposing sensitive data stored in memory. Data can be compromised through physical attacks—where malicious insiders or intruders probe hardware—or through side channels that leak information via indirect signals like timing. Current defenses encrypt memory to block physical attacks and disable sharing to prevent side channels, but these approaches slow access and increase memory usage. This presentation introduces hardware techniques that cut encryption overhead and enable safe memory sharing without leaks, delivering both strong security and high performance.
