What I Did Last Summer by CS Students
Join us Tuesday, September 22 at 4:00 PM in Alumni Hall 286! Our students will share what they did last summer and insights into their research and internship experiences. They will discuss the practical work they engaged in, how they secured these opportunities, and provide an overview of the application, interview, and overall experience.
Geng Li: I will share my internship experience at Tencent, including how I prepared for internship applications and what I learned during the process. I will talk about some useful things students can do in advance, such as preparing a resume, practicing interviews, and building relevant technical skills. I will also share some differences I noticed between working on real projects during an internship and doing projects at school.
Boone Pool: I worked at Centripetal Netowrks as part of their labs team doing data analysis and research on IP data information. I worked on attempting to find insights that would allow them to better locate malicious and dangerous corners of the internet. More specifically I worked on profiling internet infrastructure layers to find new ways to leverage intelligence.
Jackson Strauss: This summer, I worked with Professor Parsons through Wake Forest’s URECA fellowship program on a research project examining how generative AI is changing the way students learn and seek academic support. I analyzed anonymous Computer Science student survey responses to questions posted in the CS hallway and feedback surveys distributed to Prof. Parsons classes. The data we gathered was collected across multiple semesters and the topic of the questions focused on how students use AI alongside instructors, office hours, collaboration, and other learning resources.
DuBose Tuller: I spent two weeks of my summer on an independent research trip to Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, located near Oxford, UK. I am collaborating with two people from the lab on a project focused on using Newton’s Method to compute the CP tensor decomposition. While I was there, I shadowed and presented my work to the lab’s Numerical Linear Algebra group.
