Scholarships and Aid

Each summer the Executive Council of Upsilon Pi Epsilon (UPE), the international honor society of the computing sciences, evaluates a number of outstanding scholarship applicants at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. All scholarship applicants must be members of UPE. All are required to complete a comprehensive application form, which requires each applicant to attach all college-level transcripts, UPE adviser recommendation and statements from applicants related to their contributions to the Wake Forest UPE chapter and related student activities at their university, as well as their long-term plans for the profession. The Wake Forest UPE chapter can submit one undergraduate and one graduate application.

Past awards have ranged from $750 to $1,500. All Wake Forest UPE members are encouraged to apply. An application form and deadlines can be found on the UPE Website. Application must be submitted with all supporting materials as an emailed pdf attachment to turketwh@wfu.edu. The scholarship committee will submit up to two applications for consideration (one undergraduate, one graduate).

The Executive Council of Upsilon Pi Epsilon (UPE) wishes to encourage academic excellence for students in the computing discipline. This award is sponsored jointly with the IEEE Computer Society, the largest association of computer professionals, to raise the importance of academic achievement in our future computer professionals. Up to four scholarships of $1,000 each are awarded each year. Winners also receive a certificate of commendation and a periodical subscription for one year.

All full-time graduate and undergraduate students who are IEEE Computer Society members and have not received an award from the IEEE Computer Society in the last 13 months are eligible.

An application must be submitted with supporting materials as an emailed PDF attachment to turketwh@wfu.edu. The scholarship committee will submit up to one application for consideration.

The Computing Research Association’s Outstanding Undergraduate Researchers Award program recognizes undergraduate students in North American colleges and universities who show outstanding research potential in an area of computing research.

Candidates must be nominated by two faculty members and recommended by the chair of their home department. A cash prize of $1,000 will be awarded to each of two undergraduate students, one female and one male. The two first-prize winners will receive financial assistance to attend a major computing research conference, and CRA will sponsor a departmental reception for them at their home institutions. A small number of other outstanding candidates will be recognized as Runners-Up and Finalists. All nominees whose work is considered to be exemplary are recognized with Honorable Mentions.

This scholarship competition is in the spring of each year. Further information can be found at on the CRA website. The scholarship committee will submit up to four applications (two male, two female) for consideration.

UPE and the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) wish to encourage academic excellence for students in the computing and information disciplines. UPE initiated this award with ACM in order to raise the importance of academic achievement and professional commitment to ACM student members who are about to enter the computing profession.

The UPE/ACM Scholarship provides four awards of $1,000 each. Winners will also receive a certificate of commendation from UPE. All full-time graduate and undergraduate students who are members of ACM and of the Wake Forest ACM Student Chapter are eligible to apply.
