Ron Doyle

Dr. Ron Doyle is the Katherine and Dickerson Wright Presidential Chair of Computer Science and Entrepreneurship at Wake Forest University. He received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Computer Science from West Virginia University.  In 2003, he earned his PhD in Computer Science from Duke University with a focus on distributed systems. Dr. Doyle’s professional career includes over 20 years at IBM in the Software and Cloud divisions, where he served as a Distinguished Engineer and Master Inventor, and most recently as Chief Technology Officer of Enterprise Software at Broadcom, a role he held from 2018-2023.

Dr. Doyle joined the faculty of Wake Forest University in January 2020. His research interests lie at the intersection of computer science and entrepreneurship, with a focus on cloud computing, distributed systems, web application development, automation, artificial intelligence and the application of these topics to entrepreneurial innovation. He specializes in equipping students with the technological and business insights needed to launch and scale startups, bridging technical expertise with market viability. In addition to his role in the Department of Computer Science, Dr. Doyle is jointly appointed in the Center for Entrepreneurship, mentoring student ventures and contributing to curriculum development. His combined experience in academia, industry, and intellectual property innovation positions him uniquely to inspire and prepare students to lead in both technical and entrepreneurial domains.

Dr. Doyle is a prolific inventor, holding over 50 U.S. patents in areas including cloud computing, distributed systems, application security, and adaptive optimization techniques. His research contributions are documented in numerous peer-reviewed publications, with notable works addressing the foundations of cloud service delivery, the enforcement of service-level agreements through edge processing, quality of service in web service aggregation, and the optimization of structured content delivery.
