Surveying the Landscapes of Modern Technology and Jobs in Computing by Dr. Ron Doyle

Join us Monday, November 9 at 4:00 PM in Alumni Hall 286! Dr. Ron Doyle, Katherine and Dickerson Wright Presidential Chair in Computer Science and Entrepreneurship at Wake Forest University will share his insight on topic entitled Surveying the Landscapes of Modern Technology and Jobs
in Computing.
Abstract
This seminar begins with an overview of modern computing technologies, programming languages, and software development methods — including an honest look at what AI coding tools now do well, where they fail, and what that has changed about the work. The majority of the time is spent examining a wide range of computing-related jobs and roles, with a detailed focus on the technical skills and daily expectations for a selection of them, including several roles that did not exist three years ago. Attendees will also receive guidance on staying current with technology, reading the employment statistics they keep seeing, and navigating the job search for internships and full-time positions in a market that has become markedly harder to enter. This seminar is intended for students currently majoring or minoring in computer science, or considering it.
This is the third in a series of fall seminars hosted by Dr. Ron Doyle.
All are welcome!
